M 32 för matchracing möter motstånd

Två uttalanden, ett pressmeddelande från organisatörerna av Match Race Germany och ett uttalande av Knut Frostad på Yacht Racing Forum borde oroa svenska Aston Harald och deras beslut att ta över touren. Trots massiv PR till media och en hisnande prissumma, kanske steget inte var fullt så lyckat som man gjorde gällande vid tillkännagivandet i somras.
Tvivlare på vitsen med flerskrov har nu fått vatten på sina kvarnar. Så här säger tyskarna:

Langenargen, December 10th, 2015:

”The sails for the 19th edition of Match Race Germany are set. Germany's leading Grand Prix takes place in 185 days from 12th to 16th May 2016 and once again in the picturesque bay of Langenargen. In traditional collaboration with the Yacht Club Langenargen (YCL), Match Race Germany is once again awarded the highest status of World Sailing in Match Race in Germany as thus will rank amongst the top acts of German sailing.
Following the acquisition of the World Match Racing Tour by the Swedish company Aston Harald AB small steps have been made with the introduction of the self-production series of M32-racing catamarans. Whilst observing the radical changes, some well-kwon skippers yet were not able to confirm their participation in the 2016 circuit, some already had to withdraw. ”
... ” "We are guided by the existing uncertainties that arise around the world under such a radical change of course, but will not let events distract us from our course. Very obviously the establishment of a new class of boat and new formats take time and create many uncertainties but we will sail on and react in due course," said sporting director Eberhard Magg.
... ”The German organizers share their philosophy with Volvo Ocean Race boss Knut Frostad, who has just held a fiery speech on the future of international sailing during the Yacht Racing Forum in Geneva. Frostad is convinced that the sport of sailing should stop wanting to be a "Red Bull sport" and instead focus on its strengths.
Said Frostad, "If there is one thing that sailing does better than anyone, better than football or any other sport in the world, it's corporate hospitality. You can embed the big decision-makers more effectively and for a longer period than any other sport. Out of this we should make the most."

Ord i rättan tid och kanske fler än jag vill se samma spännande, täta matcher i Marstrand istället för kattor som sveper iväg eller foilar iväg som i America´s Cup. Spänningen i Match Racing ligger ju i närkamperna, i list och taktik, mer än i båthanteringen.

Att se hur besättningarna kör mot varann i full fart, ställer båtarna i vindögat och väntar på att en ska falla, komma på insidan och få läläge inför starten - katt och råtta leken, är essensen i matchracingen. Det minns jag från en frisk tur med Marie Björling och hennes skarpa besättning i Lysekil Womens för ett par år sedan.

Dessutom: Den äldsta båten på Touren, gamla IOD på Bermuda, sägs vara den intressantaste för formatet. Det borde också besinna de med hajp på hjärnan.
